INVESTIGATING THE CAUSES BEHIND INFECTION BY COMMUNISM VIRUS

BIJON B. SARMA

INTRODUCTION :

During the last three decades of the twentieth century, people of some regions of India were infected by Communism-virus. At that time however, most of the people of that country believed communism as “blessings” from the great man “Karl Marx”. The Indian devotees of Communism believed, “Well, God has given us food and other provisions. But he did not get the time to explain how to share those according to our individualistic needs. God did not say anything about, who would work in the industries to what extent, because he was not aware of industrial productions. In the meantime, the act of “production” has been excelled and one system of “distribution”  ensured by the capitalists. So, our God has sent Karl Marx and Frederick Engels to explain his system which is, ‘WORK ACCORDING TO YOUR ABILITY AND TAKE ACCORDING TO YOUR NEED”. In the wake of their extreme devotion to Gods and their incarnations they forgot how IMPRACTICAL AND ABSURD this theory was.  They however, could not worship these two great men, because Marx and Engels they did not believe in God and religion. That is the reason why you do not see  “Marx-Engels temples” beside their numerous Kali, Krishna , Ram-Krishna, Saibaba, Lokenath, Mahesh yogi, Abhoy Charan temples.

HOW DID MARX FORMULATE HIS ISM :

We know Karl Marx (1818-1883), German political philosopher and revolutionist read in the universities of Bonn , Berlin , contributed articles in papers like Rheinische Zeitung, Rheinische Zeitung etc. In 1843 he was compelled to move to Paris where he met Engels (1844) and the two men found the formula that later stirred the world for the following one and a half century. After this period, however, it had to die because whatever powerful a ‘virus’ might be it is controlled by its ‘life-span’.  And an impractical absurd doctrine is exactly like a virus.

After being forced out of Paris (1845) Marx settled in Brussels and in 1847 prepared a statement of principles that was later known as Communist Manifesto. Among others it includes materialist conception of history, or historical materialism, that was later explicitly formulated in his Critique of Political Economy (1859). Among others it says : (i) in every historical epoch the prevailing economic system by which the necessities of life are produced determines the form of societal organization and the political and intellectual history of the epoch and (ii) the history of society is a history of struggles between exploiting and exploited, that is, between ruling and oppressed social classes.

Well, he opined the above from his observations and we are aware of the limitations of such observation. But he did not stop there, he turned to a fortune teller (astrologer) and opined ; “the capitalist class would be overthrown and that it would be eliminated by a worldwide working-class revolution and replaced by a classless society”. Within less than two centuries, however, his prophecy has gone wrong and the capitalists have over thrown the fascist dictators who followed his principles.

HOW WOULD MARX FEEL TODAY ?

How would Marx feel today in case he could come and see what really happened with his doctrine ? We have no way to know that, but we can only imagine like the following :

(MARX WITNESSED THE SITUATION IN EX-USSR, IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ITS FALL).

Marx  : Sorry, the production system I proposed (work according to ability) does not work here. I discover, the party workers and leaders do not work, only the non-party people works. The distribution system I proposed (take according to need) do not work, the party leaders enjoy the most.

NOTE : Marx forgot, after living in this world for millions of years men have acquired the characteristics of ‘selfishness’, where production can be ensured only through competition, incentive, monitoring and evaluation. And that ‘take according to need’ is the dream of an insane. Most of all, when the administrative power is given in the hands of one party (in this case, the proletariat. In political Science such one party administration is known as Fascist government) they introduce what we know as tyranny.

As a matter of fact Marx was after writing ‘popular books’, from which he could earn good royalty and he succeeded in that. He did not think if his doctrines are applicable and sustainable in the field of human being having complex psychology. Marx then wondered to think, how could his impractical and absurd doctrine work so long in some countries century ?

MARX QUESTIONS : HOW COULD THE IMPRACTICAL DOCTRINE SURVIVE SO LONG ?

Marx’s investigation could lead to an “untrue” decision that the army generals were the most generous, benevolent and kind-hearted persons in this world. Marx told, his ism was the best medicine to cure the distress and pains of the poor people. He discovered the men who came forward to shoulder this noble task were some ‘army generals’. In the battlefield the generals with stony hearts usually win due to their brutality. Marx wondered, how could those stony hearts be attracted to the mission of eradicating the pains of the exploited people ?

In case Marx could afford time and energy to investigate further he could discover, at certain time of history some army generals were need of a ‘doctrine’ that could help them to attain the post of a ‘honorable dictator’ and that, the post of the ‘party chairman’ in his ism is exactly like that. Even though election has been proposed in his ism, such election in one party system means nothing but electing or adding popular support for the party chairman. Marx also discovered, the country ran so well not because of any quality in his doctrine, but because the army personnel and their military administration.

MARX QUESTIONS : WHY COULD NOT THE BEST MEN BECAME PARTY MEMBERS ?

Marx was convinced, the system and the country under his ism could run efficiently if the best men of the country be elected to that post. Then he questioned, why cannot the best man go in that post ? He however discovered, his ism (or a faulty form of the same) survived because there was a military and fascist dictator at the top and his faithful deputies in the field. Needless to mention, in election only these persons would appear as influential members of the party. Marx released a sign of grief and thought, what would have happened if the entire population turned communist or party members ? “Oh no”. All on a sudden Marx understood his own mistake. He could realize, “If all people of the country turns Communist, the system in fact fails”. The success of his ism in fact lies within struggle and that can continue till a part of the people are outside the party. If all turns to party-members, then the party chairman turns into dictatorship in the eyes of the world and there remains no need for election. When all the people of the country turn to communist, the fascist system of administration through the proletariats would instantly collapse. In democracy they ensure people’s administration through the bureaucracy by placing over them the representatives elected by popular vote. In Marx ism, those who guide or mis-guide the bureaucracy are the fascists/ proletariats/ party-members.  Marx asked to himself : “Who are the men to be eligible for membership of the party ?” The reply was, “those who believe in party’s manifesto”. Marx questioned,  “Does it really happen so ?” The reply was , “Oh no. Those who want to grab money, property and power ‘pretend to believe in party manifesto’ and becomes party members”. Unknowingly Marx nodded his head in the affirmative. He understood, what may happen to a country with money, property and power grabber persons in the party. By this time Marx was convinced, he was in a completely wrong track.

THE PARTY CHAIRMAN (GENERAL) ASKED : HOW TO SURVIVE ?

What Karl Marx could understand today was understood long ago party chairmen alias ex-generals, alias dictators, alias leader of the fascist party. They discovered, their system of production and administration was somehow running. But it happened so not because of Marx’s ism, but because they applied military administration and discipline through their military personnel. They discovered, the stability and survival of their country depended largely upon the attitudes of the neighboring countries, their competitors. In order to make their competitors equally lame or handicapped they decided to “export revolution”. After all Marx in his Critique of the Gotha Program (1875; translated 1922) said : “Between the capitalist and communist systems of society lies the period of the revolutionary transformation of the one into the other*. This corresponds to a political transition period, whose state can be nothing else but the revolutionary dictatorship of the proletariat.”  (*By “revolutionary transformation of the one into the other” Marx definitely thought of transformation of capitalism into socialism. What really happened was the reverse). We do not find space to write details about this ‘export of revolution’. In short we are to say, the ‘export’ from Ex-USSR was mainly literary and propaganda-types in nature, while those from China included propaganda plus bullet. Unfortunately, West Bengal turned to be worst victims of this export (Virus).

WHY DID THE PEOPLE OF BENGAL BECOME THE VICTIM OF ISM-VIRUS?

Bengal of India has always been considered to be the abode of the most intelligent, sensitive and progressive people of India . And no one can deny that when one knows :

(a)     India became independent from the British occupation in 1947, and the people who took the pragmatic, revolutionary and praise-worthy role in the fight for liberation were the people from this region.

(b)     In 1971 part of Bengal that became part of Pakistan in 1947 became liberated from the rule of Pakistan . In this fight for liberation the common men fought against strong armed forces of Pakistan . Strangely they won, even though USA and China , the two allies of Pakistan were their worst enemies.

(c)     There are two noble prizewinners and numerous eminent scientists from this region.

And with this reality the relatives and descendants of such people fell victim of this virus. Unbelievable, isn’t it ? Let us investigate the matter. From the very first Marx-Engel-ism was an impractical big sounding propaganda. It has absolutely no logical base that can make it successful or even to sustain. When the same was being exported in various directions, the antennas of the people of Bengal (mostly the Hindus) picked up the signal.  As religion Hinduism always speaks of helping the sick, poor, distressed and depressed men. (Islam on other hand speaks more of helping and giving due shares of the orphans and widows). As ultimate objective Marx-Engels-ism tells of eradicating poverty, taking care of the distressed etc. This similarity between the call of God and that of Marx and Engels made numerous Hindus to take shelter under the porous umbrella. One may still be confused and ask, “how could these ‘intelligent’ men be so easily brain-washed ? Could not they detect that the very process of achieving the objective of this ism was wrong ?”

WHY DID THE ‘INTELLIGENT’ PEOPLE ACT SO FOOLISHLY ?

In India irrespective of intelligence, those who are inclined to religion are extremely weak in logic and scientific reasoning. They believe in a so called force they call God, who, they believe has created this world, keeps record of all activities of men to give punishment and/or reward in this world or after death. Let one of them ask the cleric :

-   I need to pass the examination. What should I do now, my master ?”

:    Well, pray to God. He would give you success.

-    Shall I work for it ?

:    Of course you would work.

(The logical answer at this juncture is : Sir, if I study well there is every possibility that I would do good. Why then should I pray to that unnecessary thing you call ‘god’ ? Even though they are known as dissidents of intelligent men, the Hindus never raised this question. In the examination the ‘prey of the cleric’ fails. He asked) :

-     Sir, I studied hard and prayed. And I failed. What should I do now ?

:      Pray to God.

-          Why should I ? You know that god could not help me.

:      You do not know what is good for you, but only God knows. So pray to him, he would give you what is beneficial for you.

In this age even a child in the west can understand the ‘bluff’ used by the cleric. But for generations the Hindus could not find out the bluff. Is there any reason why should not such people fall victim of the Marx-Engel’s virus ?
