Special Greetings for 5th Year Anniversary of Mukto-Mona

Please accept our congratulations on the 5th anniversary of your organization. You're doing heroic work on the frontiers of the new civilization that is emerging: humanistic, secular, and democratic.

Your work is an inspiration to the entire CfI movement.

With best personal wishes,

--Paul Kurtz

Dear Mukto-Mona,

It is with great personal happiness and admiration that I congratulate you on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of your marvelous organization's founding. The Mukto-Mona discussion forum, in its unfettered, evidence-based, humanistic, and secular examination of questions of conscience, exemplifies all that is best in Bengali and South Asian culture.

Before the Ummah, before the Body of Christ, before The Chosen People, there is the community of conscience, the community of people who must choose for themselves. We should all be grateful to the creators, participants, and supporters of Mukto-Mona for defending and enriching this community.

I wish you another five, fifty, and one hundred years of success!

Yours sincerely,

Austin Dacey, Ph.D.

“Prolixity is not alien to us in India. We are able to talk at some length” writes Amartya Sen in his recent book The Argumentative Indian. This is a reaffirmation of the Bengali tradition that one can be proud of: a tradition of dialogue and debate. Sen, one of the most respected Bengalis and one of the most distinguished minds of our time, has rightly noted, “We do like to speak. This is not a new habit.” This habit also represents a culture of civility, tolerance and the acceptance of heterodoxy, all of which are integral parts of democracy. While some of the democratic institutions may be experiencing problems in the subcontinent, particularly in Bangladesh, I believe that the cultural prerequisites are there. This cultural trait does not disappear when Bengalis are away from home. The existence and the growing popularity of Mukto-mona testify to the fact. Over the last five years, the Muktomona has been the forum where we have seen debates and discussions on a variety of issues: important and ‘not-so-important.’ That is how our normal and regular discourses are: some are serious, some are light-hearted. Some draws more attention than others; but all contribute to the whole. This is where the uniqueness of Mukto-mona lies. Thanks to those who are making this possible.

Dear Moderators:

It is my pleasure to know that Mukto-Mona is celebrating its 5th anniversary. I would like to congratulate you for that. The service you have been offering to the people of the present world through your secular forum is great. Not only are you giving a chance for the open minded people to participate in your forum, but, the great thing is, you are also offering others to join in the open discussions.

I have been honored to be with you.

Sincerely,

While I agree that struggle to improve living conditions of the people, for progressive political system and social justice should continue, it can not be an excuse for not promoting and educating (ourselves and others) people to thinking rationally, adopt a rational, materialist view of the world (and hopefully, learn to act rationally as well). Mukto-mona plays a leading role in this matter.

Congratulations on completing 5 years.

Congratulations!!
Happy 5Th Anniversary.

May Allah (so called) bless (??) your souls (???). I pray (to who?) for you all for bringing humanist movement upto this level. Such a great achievement. Please do not forget that we are in the U.S. that gave us (Humanists, Atheists, Agnostics, Freethinkers, Spirituals..) freedom to express our religious views without fear of death, prosecution or discrimination. This great country of ours gave tremendous opportunity to grow if we want to. The mullas are still around us, but they can't hurt us like they do in Bangladesh. I wish you all the best. Again happy anniversary.

Mukto-Mona is one of my favorite sites to visit. It is so refreshing and so encouraging to see a Bengali/South-Asian community of humanists and secularists. I have been coming to Mukto-Mona only recently really, since August 2005. You and others have given me, in the face of many obstacles and much opposition, the confidence to follow what I always knew to be true. And if it wasn't for Mukto-Mona, there would be a huge gaping hole in my self-confidence and in my ability to pursue my own belief system - which is after all what I think the website intended to do in the first place, right?  Yes, so thank you for the site, I enjoy reading many of the articles posted, both old and new. And it is one of the primary ways in which I keep in contact with news and political events in my ancestors’ country. Being unable to read Bangla to anywhere near a sufficient ability, it is important for me to be able to follow at least some of the events on such a site as this one, by reading about them in English.

In the modern world, websites have become popular to people like printed news media have since they create new writers and readers all over the world. I appreciate the laborious endeavors the editors and writers took in the last five years to popularize Mukto-mona as a new website while the torrents of websites still existed. To improve the quality of the website, the editors should give more emphasis on publishing creative writings than just one sided critical reviews. Variety of articles may enrich the website.

Best wishes on 5th anniversary of Muktomona.

While congratulating Mukto Mona on it's 5th anniversary, I remember a sloka from the Upanishadas. It says,"Ananda rupang amritam jadbivati". When joy expresses itself that's immortality. Anondo jokhon prokashito hoi tai amrito. Mukto Mona is helping us to do that noble job. Mukto Mona is like a huge library where different ideas live peacefully respecting each others. This is an amazing experience in this age of conflicts and discords. Life without expression is death. Expression makes life generous. This role of Mukto Mona is reconfirming the truth that there is an unity in diversity. I believe that understanding increases compassion, fosters peace and removes ignorance.

Happy anniversary Mukto Mona.

Dear Mukto-Mona Moderators,

I would also like to express my felicitation on your fifth anniversary. I wish that you would keep on espousing the spirit of rationalism and clear-thinking, at least for the Bangalees back home until they break out of their confined boxes of authoritarianism (ISLAMISM, COMMUNISM, etc.) and realize their great potential as human beings. When they start thinking clearly and learn how to use their heads, they could be as productive as any worker in the world. I also commend you for making the Mukto-Mona Rationalist Award to Ananta Dash. Although not enough information was given, Ananta appears to be a brave, young man who is not afraid of speaking the truth or doing the right thing.

Hi, Talk is creative if listeners take them to proces and act. Otherwise talk-feast is waste of energy and of attention. Mukto-mona is really free spirit. I congratulate you on your anniversary. Though its not special, its from the sincere heart.

Cheers.
