Mukto-mona ( www.mukto-mona.com

issues including religion, politics, philosophy, history, arts,
science, literature, feminism, human rights and so on in an effort to
promote rationalism, secularism, human rights, religious tolerance,
and harmony since its founding on May 26, 2001.

Besides hosting

works as a socially conscious action group. Currently, Mukto-Mona is
conducting a Flood Rehabilitation Project for rebuilding a
school in remote Roumari in Northern part (Kurigram) of
Bangladesh. As an act of committing from responsibility and
social obligation, it has been raised voice against
many unjust acts around the globe. Activities involved in sending
petitions to the President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf for
saving the life of Dr M Younus Shaikh who was sentenced to death at
that time for
alleged blasphemy; to the Prime minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda
Zia showing concerns at the spate of atrocities committed against the
minority community in Bangladesh aftermath of the parliament election in 2001;
and for the release of Shahriar Kabir, the well-known writer,
journalist while he was arrested by the Bangladesh government in the past. We also wrote many petitions including those
to save Amina Lawal from stoning to death in Nigeria, to stop
harassing Taslima Nasrin, to hold trials of the perpetrators of
Gujarat massacre, to stop brutal extermination of Palestinians by the
Israelis, to initiate bilateral talks with the expert groups of
Bangladesh before undertaking River Interlinking Project, to stop
funding extremist Hindu organizations in India, etc. We also sent
a letter to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the wake of brutal attack on
Humayun Azad demanding some societal reforms, which is urgently needed
in Bangladesh. Our members raised funds for Humayun Azad memorial
foundation to keep his memory alive. In addition to these, Mukto-mona celebrated its first ‘Rationalist
Day’ on March 1, 2004 to uphold reason and humanity over blind
faith and discrimination based on gender and ethnicity.
Mukto-mona would work
tirelessly to make our world a better place to live for everyone;
protest the exploitation of cheap labor in Third World countries by
the West done all in the name of globalization.
Safe and pollution free environment is also a chief concern
amongst Mukto-monas. We
believe that humankind should live harmoniously with other species of
animal and plant life. Preservation
of ecosystems, rainforest, genetic diversity, etc., is dear to our
life. We believe that
every human being should lead a purposeful life and contribute for the
betterment of 6.2 billion people on earth.
